The Saga of Storm and SeaIllustration | Mural | 2020
350cm x 147cm Commissioned by Gushcloud International, this painting details the struggles and triumphs of the company and its staff as an illustrated epic. Filled to the brim with visual metaphors and allegories known only to the Gushcloud family, an outsider’s lens would not suffice in its interpretation of the work. Drawn to the structure of the monomyth, the painting is generally divided into three arcs, a beginning, middle and end. The first arc illustrates Gushcloud’s beginnings in Silicon Valley, and the ebb and flow of fortune in such a tumultous realm. It also tells of the company’s journey riding the nascent wave of social media, influencers and content. The second arc highlights a troubling crisis that plagued Gushcloud in late 2014, as allegations of inflated numbers and unethical practices by an influential antagonist rocked the company. The third arc presents how despite the lost faith in the industry, the allies, clients, family and friends of the company rallied to pull it back on its feet. With new international opportunities and partnerships, the Gushcloud family grows from strength to strength and looks ever ahead, guided by its shared values. |
